Bright/Bad Idea: A European Version of Wangan Midnight

So who would like to see a graphic novel or game that is parallel to Wangan Midnight, but set in Europe, with mostly European-market cars, and the protagonists race performance estates?

First order of business: where to set it. We can go big immediately and use the entirety of Europe, or start in Germany. I mean, the manga/anime/game still races in the city whose expressways still have corners and junctions, and still has mountain routes.

I guess we can cut it up by country? I mean, we have Germany, Spain, Switzerland, France, Austria, UK, Italy, plus Finland and Sweden for rally routes.

And what would the title be? We can’t call it Wangan Midnight, no.

Racing around the Paris’ périphérique would make a good manga I think...

In all seriousness though, I think this a pretty cool idea.

There’s a bit more to the car scene here than what you suggested though.

As for the roads, there’s the motorways and autobahns. Back roads and B roads serve as the equivalent for twisty mountain roads, though they’re much less hilly.

Wangan Midnight could easily take place anywhere, I think. It’s not like Initial D , which needs twisty mountain roads for its setting. WM just needs a freeway, and those aren’t hard to find at all.

As for the cars, the dynamic between the Devil Z and the Blackbird seems to boil down to having a classic, domestic market sports car vs a modern import. I’ve often thought that an American version would star a C3 Corvette, but I hadn’t thought about a European version...

And there’s also the time thing. WM took place in the 1990s, right? Should the new version do the same, or should it take place today? The main character’s car could be a more modern classic, perhaps a ’90s model paired against a current-day non-Euro car. Hell, the hero car could be a 964! The “Devil 911”.
